These tend to be fairly large engines that are fitted to cruiser style bikes, which may be under stressed and in a low state of tune. These engines are traditionally best for cruising around as opposed to outright speed and come in everything from 125cc to 2000cc. Twin engines tend to combine a lot of torque with a fantastic rumbling engine noise. Ducati are famous for using V-Twin engines in their sports bikes and these are purposely overdeveloped to offer high BHP and surprisingly high top speeds.

Some bikes that use twin cylinder engines include the BMW R1200GS, Ducati 1098, Harley-Davidson® XL 1200L Sportster and Kawasaki VN2000.
