I was recently asked to name music videos featuring motorbikes. An interesting challenge! Here are a few of my favourites…
Puff Daddy featuring Faith Evans, I’ll be missing you
Classic video showing a cool rapper travelling in the coolest way (by motorcycle). All is good until he manages to crash the Suzuki GSXR on a straight piece of road before getting straight back up and singing. Cool in that the bike is actually being ridden, deceiving in that it implies a crash at speed will not cause the slightest bit of bother or injury. Still, no better way to start a music video!
Britney Spears, I love rock ‘n’ roll
Everyone’s favourite (but slightly screwed up) pop princess makes the right decision to include a bike in her cover version of this classic song. Even though the bike isn’t shown running, the gleaming Harley V-Rod does a damn good job of making Britney look half decent! Nobody can deny the attraction of a girl in leather trousers sitting astride a Harley – about as rock ’n’ roll as you can get!
Aaliyah, More than a Woman
The late Aaliyah is another female artist who makes the inspired decision to incorporate a bike into one of her videos. Aaliyah takes it a step further by basing her video in the insides of a bike engine which is pretty cool by itself. Coupling this with footage of a Triumph Speed Triple blasting through a sprawling urban metropolis can only be a recipe for success. Good on you Aaliyah!
