Personal Accident Policy Summary

Some important facts about your Motorcycle Personal Accident insurance are summarised below. This summary does not describe all the terms and conditions of your policy, so please take time to read the policy document to make sure you understand the cover it provides. Duration of the Policy: Three Years.

If you suffer accidental injury while legally riding, mounting or dismounting a motorcycle within the United Kingdom and which within 104 consecutive weeks of occurring directly results in one of the following we will pay the applicable benefit as shown below:
  1. Accidental Death £10,000
  2. Loss of sight in one or both eyes £10,000
  3. Loss of limb or limbs £10,000
  4. Loss of speech £10,000
  5. Loss of hearing in one or both ears £10,000
  6. Permanent Total Disabement £10,000
  7. Confinement to hospital lasting a minimum of 72 hrs and up to a maximum of 7 days £50 per day
This insurance does not cover accidental injury directly or indirectly arising out of or as a consequence of:

  1. Use of a motorcycle for:
    a) Hire or reward.
    b) Racing competition, rallies, trials, speed testing or for any purpose in connection with the motor trade.
    c) your business or in connection with your employment, other than daily travel between the insured person's normal residence and place of work
    d) Courier and/or messenger services
  2. You:
    a) Riding your motorcycle off road
    b) using a motorcycle that is not in a roadworthy condition
    c) Using a motorcycle without a protective helmet
    d) Serving a ban from holding a valid motorcycle licence or where you do not hold a valid motorcycle licence
  3. You committing or attempting to commit suicide or intentionally inflicting self injury, while sane or insane
  4. Any physical, mental or medical condition of which you ought reasonably to have been aware of which existed before cover started under this policy
  5. War (whether declared or not), invasion, act of foreign enemy, hostilities, civil war, rebellion, revolution, terrorist activity, insurrection or millitary or usurped power
  6. Deliberate exposures to exceptional danger (except in an attempt to save human life), or your own criminal act, or being under the influence of alchol or drugs
  7. Pregnancy, childbirth, miscarriage or abortion 8. Terrorism, as defined by the Terrorism Act 2000
Section 4
Once a year for each year during the term of the policy, the amount of cover under the policy will increase by an amount equal to 10% of the amount of cover applicable in the 1st year Once a year for each year during the term of the policy the monthly premium will increase by 10% of the amount of the monthly premium in the 1st year  

Cancellation Right

You may cancel this policy within 14 days of receiving your documentation. If no claims have been made we will refund the premium you have paid. If a claim is made we will be entitled to the first monthly premium.

If any other monthly premium is not paid when due, we have the right to cancel the policy with effect from the date the payment was due. You may cancel the policy at any time by telling us either in writing or by phone.

We may cancel your policy at any time by giving 14 days notice to your last known address.

Making a claim

Written notice of any claim should be submitted to Swinton PA Unit, Its4me House, Rosary Road, Norwich, NR1 4BX

Customer Care

It is always our intention to provide a first class standard of service. However, if you have any cause for complaint you should in the first instance contact either Swinton who arranged the policy for you or Covea Insurance plc, which insures the risk.

Please always quote your policy number.

If after taking this action, you are still dissatisfied, please write to the Chief Executive, Covea Insurance plc, Norman Place, Reading, RG1 8DA. Should you then remain dissatisfied you may, approach the Financial Ombudsman Service at South Quay Plaza, 183 Marsh Wall, London, E14 9SR. You must do this within 6 months of the date of our final response letter. There are a few instances where the Financial Ombudsman Service are not able to assist and you must have allowed us the opportunity to resolve your complaint before the Financial Ombudsman Service become involved.

Financial Services Compensation Scheme

We are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). You may be entitled to receive compensation from the scheme if we cannot meet our obligations. This depends on the type of business and the circumstances for the claim. Insurance advising and arranging is covered for 100% of the first £2,000 and 90% for the remainder of the claim, without any upper limit.

Statement of price

  • Total amount of the premium: this policy is paid for by monthly premiums. The monthly premium is £4.99 per month inclusive of Insurance Premium Tax totalling £179.64 for the 3 year period
  • Fees, administrative charges and taxes payable (in addition to the premium): nil, other than Insurance Premium Tax included in the monthly premium as specified above
