London mayor Boris Johnson has unveiled new traffic plans, which could help speed up the journeys of bike insurance customers.
Under the new proposals, countdown systems will be introduced at pedestrian crossings informing people when the lights are about to change.
Citing the success of such technology in a number of the world's other major cities, Mr Johnson believes that this could reduce dawdling and thereby speed up journey times for both drivers and bikers.
Indeed, according to initial estimates, it is believed that the length of time bikers will be held at a crossing while they wait for pedestrians will be cut by six seconds, with this likely to add up given the sheer number of traffic lights in place across the capital.
Despite the mayor's enthusiasm, the plans are to be subjected to a Transport for London study before any green light will be given, with some road safety groups arguing that pedestrians are rushed enough as it is.
