Ducati insurance customers will have been very disappointed with the team's luck at the latest round of the MotoGP championship.
Nicky Hayden in particular was cursing his poor fortune, after he clipped his left knee slider on a kerb drain cover on lap three.
The impact tore the slider away from the leathers, leaving a hole over the American's now very sore knee.
Losing this key balancing device meant that the Ducati rider, who had been very fast all weekend and had qualified in third place, was unable to push at full speed on the numerous left-hand corners on the track.
He said: "I couldn't push anywhere and finished up with a huge hole in my leathers.
"I am incredibly disappointed because we had the pace to put in a performance today."
Things were even worse for teammate Casey Stoner, who crashed on lap eight and was unable to rejoin.
Hayden will have a new colleague at Ducati next season as Stoner leaves for Honda, to be replaced by Valentino Rossi.
