Yamaha insurance customer saw a jubilant Jorge Lorenzo cross the line in second place at the first MotoGP race of the season in Qatar.
The reigning champion finished between the Honda bikes ridden by Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa, and the Spanish rider felt that this was the best he could possibly have achieved.
Lorenzo revealed that he had to push on every single lap just to compete with the speed of the Repsol bikes, and so was delighted to take a creditable second place.
He said: "I think maybe I am more proud of that podium than a race victory, that's how I feel tonight.
"I feel very proud of myself and my team who never gave up and worked to give me the best bike that they can."
As well as competing with faster Honda bikes, Lorenzo has the added pressure of being the rider responsible for driving the development of the Yamaha M1, after Valentino Rossi left to join Ducati.
